This 50th anniversary session for Janelle’s parents at Red Hills Desert Garden in St. George, Utah felt like such a celebration of family. With all of the siblings together, we had a full group of adults that completely filled the red rock backdrop in the best way.
We met in the evening when the desert light had started to soften, which worked beautifully with the warm tones of the cliffs. The simple color palette the family chose really let the connection between everyone stand out against the sandstone. Red Hills Desert Garden gave us that classic Southern Utah look without having to hike far, which was ideal for grandparents and a larger group.
We started with everyone together, then moved into smaller combinations, making sure to give extra time to the anniversary couple. Capturing them tucked into the red rocks, holding hands and laughing with their grown kids gathered around, felt like such a meaningful way to honor fifty years together.
Sessions like this are why we love photographing in the St. George area. The landscape is dramatic, but the atmosphere stayed relaxed and easygoing, with plenty of room for natural interactions and lots of candid moments between the more posed portraits. It was a joy to help this family mark such an important milestone in a place that showcases the beauty of Southern Utah so well.
