This late summer session at Hela Seegmiller Historical Farm in St. George, Utah was extra special, because it centered around a surprise wedding proposal!
We planned everything as an “outdoor portrait” session with the whole family, which fit the farm setting perfectly. The rustic fences, big trees, and warm wood of the barn gave us a beautiful mix of country charm and soft, natural backdrops. By shooting in the later afternoon, we had gentle light filtering through the trees that kept everyone comfortable and gave the images a relaxed, golden feel.
We eased into the session with simple family groupings and a few relaxed couple portraits so everything felt natural. Once everyone had settled in and the light softened over the pastures, Dakota dropped to one knee on the grass under the trees and pulled out the ring. It was a quiet, heartfelt moment surrounded by people who clearly cared about them.
After the proposal, we captured more images of the newly engaged couple with the farm’s open fields and wood fencing in the background, along with a few more family combinations to round things out. Hela Seegmiller Farm worked so well for this kind of storytelling session, blending a classic Southern Utah location with a very personal milestone for a wonderful couple.
