Spending the afternoon with Marianne’s family at Tonaquint Nature Center in St. George, Utah felt like the perfect way to welcome early spring. The trees were just starting to leaf out, the light filtered softly through the branches, and the paths along the water gave us so many relaxed little corners to work in.
We started with classic family portraits, keeping things simple and comfortable so everyone could ease into the session. The neutral and soft blue outfits worked beautifully with the warm tones of the paths and the fresh greens in the background, which is one of the reasons we love photographing at Tonaquint for outdoor family sessions.
From there, we mixed in smaller groupings and individual portraits of the kids and parents. The nature center’s winding trails, archways, and that peaceful pond with ducks gave the children plenty to look at and room to move, which helped the session stay light and natural.
What I loved most about this shoot was how unhurried it felt. Even with several goals in mind, we were able to capture a variety of family photos, kid-focused images, and a few clean, natural options that could work as professional headshots, all within one easygoing visit to one of our favorite St. George metro locations.
