Spring break in the desert is hard to beat, and Amanda’s evening family session at Red Hills Desert Garden was such a perfect way to celebrate it. We met at 6:30 PM, just as the sun was starting to soften and slide behind the red rock hills, casting this gorgeous golden light across the paths and desert plants.
Red Hills is one of my favorite spots for outdoor portraits because it gives a little bit of everything—red rock, greenery, water, bridges, and wide open sky—all within a short walk. For a relaxed, candid-focused family like Amanda’s, it meant we could wander, talk, and laugh while the scenery quietly did its magic in the background.
We mixed classic family portraits with more playful moments, especially with the twin sisters. The soft spring air and that warm glow on the rocks created such a welcoming, easygoing atmosphere. Instead of stiff posing, I offered gentle direction and let their natural connections lead the way.
By the time the sun dipped lower, we had that dreamy twilight color reflecting in the water and along the trails—an ideal backdrop for a family who hadn’t had photos taken together since 2020. It felt like the perfect fresh start: updated portraits, a beautiful desert evening, and a spring break memory all rolled into one session.
