Red Hills Desert Garden is one of our favorite places to photograph families, and Maren’s crew of six was such a perfect match for this spot. The bold red rock, desert plants, and winding paths gave us so many beautiful backdrops within a short walk, and is ideal for a 30-minute session that still felt relaxed and unhurried.
We met in the evening when the St. George, Utah light starts to soften and everything in the garden glows. Their blue and neutral outfits popped so nicely against the warm desert tones, and the open pathways made it easy to move between full-family portraits, groupings of the four brothers, and individual shots for each of them.
Maren asked for a mix of guided, posed images and more natural, casual interactions, which is exactly what this location lends itself to. We could pause for classic, everyone-looking-at-the-camera portraits, then let the brothers interact and have a little fun together in between.
I especially love Red Hills Desert Garden for families visiting the St. George area because it offers that iconic Southern Utah landscape without a long hike or tricky terrain; it's just a short distance from the roadway, with a big variety of looks. It was a joy to photograph this family and help them create updated images for wall art and photo books in such a beautiful desert setting.
