Spending the evening with Tammy and her five grandchildren at Red Hills Desert Garden in St. George, Utah felt like such a joyful way to welcome spring. We planned our session for that soft pre-sunset light, and the garden absolutely glowed. The warm red rock, blooming plants, and winding paths created a beautiful, relaxed backdrop that fit Tammy’s casual, playful vision perfectly.
We focused on a mix of guided group portraits and natural, in-between moments. Having everyone in simple white tops and denim really let the kids’ personalities shine against the rich desert tones. The older cousins naturally helped guide the younger ones, which kept the session moving and gave us so many sweet, connected frames without it feeling too formal or stiff.
Red Hills Desert Garden worked especially well for this age range. There was space for the kids to move and explore, plus plenty of spots where we could quickly gather everyone together for those must-have “all the grandkids” portraits Tammy wanted for her walls. The light filtered through the plants and reflected off the rocks in a way that felt warm and timeless, which is exactly what we love for family sessions in the St. George metro area.
Sessions like this are such a reminder of why we love photographing grandparents with their grandkids: simple, sunny, and full of togetherness.
